Hello friends,

I’ve never been good about updating my blog regularly, but now it seems like it’s time for that to change. I have a lot of projects in the works and it only makes sense that I talk about them on my actual website-at least from time to time.

To start, I’ve recently founded an independent publishing house called Wraithwood Press. Many of you who follow me on social media may have already heard about it.

The basic plan is this: I’m going to begin by publishing my own work, but my long-term goal is to eventually offer editing and publishing services to other authors as well.

The company’s first publication will be my short story collection, Echoes of the Arcane. This will feature some of the stories that I’ve posted here in the past, though all of them have been heavily revised. It will also feature several of my other previously published works, as well as some stories that will be in print for the very first time. The collection will contain 21 original stories, including:

  • Little Bugs – The story of a young woman who ventures into a forest that has been closed due to toxic contamination for years, but is now open thanks to the efforts of government-owned nanobots that have been cleaning the pollution.
It was first published in The 18th Annual Writer’s Digest Short Story Competition Collection when it was selected as one of the competition’s winners.
  • Crossing Over – A speculative story about a refugee fleeing to Canada from a war-torn future United States. It chronicles her journey across the border and her struggle to come to terms with the people she was forced to leave behind.
Crossing Over received praise from Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine after it was declared the First Runner-up for the 2019 Dell Award.
  • Bones of the Giant – A story about a young girl who lives inside the husk of a metal giant. Alone in the heart of a dense forest, she hardly ever sees another soul until she encounters a stranger in need of help.
This story won the Silver Honorable Mention in the Writers of the Future Competition.
  • Last of the Legion – The longest story in my collection, Last of the Legion is a fantasy novelette about a centurion who is trying to save his family from ruthless invaders in the final days of the Roman Empire. Over the course of this journey, he discovers that there are powers at play hailing from beyond the realms of mortal men.

After Echoes of the Arcane is released, I will begin work preparing to publish my novels, Sanctuary and Geppetto’s Children. It’s my sincere hope that you will follow me on this journey. Some of these stories have been floating around for the better part of a decade and I’m so excited to finally be able to share them with you all.

Thanks for reading,

-Cody
